Ensure that your cat is getting enough per day by working with your veterinarian to calculate her energy requirement. Always measure your meal portions using a scale, as cups are inaccurate.

Even high fiber diets can cause weight gain if too much is fed. Many cats are prone to obesity and should only be given the number of calories they need to stay healthy.

2) Choose a diet with prebiotic ingredients

If you are choosing a high fiber diet, it is worth finding one that includes prebiotics.

Prebiotics are often found in fiber ingredients which feed the healthy bacteria of the gut. In turn, these produce compounds linked to gastrointestinal health. 3) Choose a food that is complete and balanced

A diet that is high in fiber should still be balanced to ensure that your cat is getting all the nutrients she needs. The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) has developed nutrient requirements for cat foods based on the historic body of nutrition research- choose a food with an adequacy statement that matches your cat’s life stage.

4) Choose a food that is tasty to your cat

Fibrous ingredients don’t tend to be a favorite for the cat’s picky palate – so high-fiber diets can sometimes end up being less appetizing to your kitty.
